What is rectified tile?

Rectified tile is a tile that has been precision-cut along its edges to reduce thickness variation and allow for tighter, more uniform grout joints compared to standard pressed tiles.

Rectified tiles undergo a mechanical process that cuts and refines their edges after firing, removing the slightly rounded or irregular perimeter that naturally occurs in standard pressed tiles. This precision trimming produces consistent dimensions across each tile, enabling grout lines as narrow as 2-3 mm without visible gaps or misalignment.

The key difference lies in edge tolerance. Standard pressed tiles have looser dimensional variation, meaning grout joints must be wider to accommodate slight size differences tile-to-tile. Rectified tiles, by contrast, maintain tight tolerances, creating a more seamless visual appearance on completed floors and walls. This matters for large-format tiles and applications where uniform line spacing affects the final aesthetic.

Rectified tiles cost more to produce and install than standard tiles because the cutting process is additional labor and equipment. They are also more brittle at the edges during cutting and installation, requiring careful handling. For contractors and property owners in the Klang Valley seeking a polished, minimalist finish, rectified tiles offer tighter grout lines that can make a floor appear flatter and more integrated. When sourcing tiles for precision installations, tile and marble flooring providers can advise on whether rectified options suit the design intent and site conditions.
